Oswald’s Super Six.
On perhaps the best ice of the season thus far, there were Division 1 wins for Elgin’s Kenny Oswald and Forres’ Mike McDonald.
Kenny’s game with Bill Jaffrey was a cracker with the Fochabers four drawing expertly over the first 4 ends to build a 5-1 lead. The Elgin team showed why they were league winners last season when Oswald, facing a well hidden opposition shot, but with a clutch of his own in front, played a brilliant angled inwicking promotion to extract the shot stone and pick up 6 shots. In the end, a 9-6 win didn’t tell the story of a tremendously contested match.
Mike McDonald’s Forres rink maintained their great form and were always ahead against the Sunninghill gang who had Angus Gunn calling the shots. 9-1 ahead after 5 ends and the contest was all but over .
In Division 2 Ron Christie’s rink raced to a 5-0 lead after 2 ends. This was to be the height of their aspirations however, as Darnaway’ s Eddie Milne hit his stride to pick up 6 shots over the last 3 ends for a come from behind win.
Ian Rae’s Darnaway team meanwhile had another bad night, and despite a 2 at the first and another deuce at the 4 th end, ran into an Andy Cameron juggernaut, as the Aberlour team scored the full house with a 5, a 4, a 3, a 2, and a 1 in their convincing 15-4 victory.
Division 4’s full programme resulted in big wins for Elgin’s Helen Downey, 12-2 over Linda Hardie’s Forres girls and Jim Farquhar’s Elgin rink, 10-2 over the Juniors of Georgia Clarke.
Andrew Mcintyre’s Junior rink scored 3 at the first end, but then succumbed to the high flying Sandra Mcivor’s Ladies who picked up 5 shots over the last 3 ends in their 9-4 win.
Once again, all the curlers were delighted with the keen ,predictable ice prepared by Cameron Clarke and his technical team.
