The Royal Caledonian Curling Club’s Annual General Meeting 

Edinburgh on Saturday 9 June 2012.

 Pat Edington the outgoing President gave a good account of his year as President and Bruce Crawford Chief Executive summarised the Annual Report.

The accounts were approved and subscriptions were agreed to be increased from Nov 2012 (after the 2012-13 subs are due) late payment for this season will incur the new charges.

Bill Duncan (Perth) was elected as President, Alan Durno (Fochabers) as Vice President.

Bob Kelly, Cathy Maclean and Graham McWiggan were elected as directors.

East Lothian Province was presented with the Sir Richard Waldie Griffith Trophy. Blairdrummond and Cadder Curling Clubs were presented with 150th Medals; Monifieth Curling Club was presented with a 100 year Medal.

Individual members: Elspeth Young (Corstorphine Ladies), Angus Wilson (Aberlemno), William Nicoll (Aberlemno), Crawford Edie (Balcaskie), Henry Watson (Balcaskie), Alexander Reid (Fordoun), and the following who were not present: Sandy Inverarity (Balruddery), Robert R. Niven (Delvine), William Borland (Fordoun), Jim Paterson (Kinross), Roy Robertson (St Andrews).

Presentations were made to the U17 Slam winners: Katie Murray, Sophie Jackson, Gayle Allan, Kirsty Morton and the boys: James Carswell, George McConnell, Ben Bremner, and Peter Dagen.

The National Curling Centre review was noted and the chairman agreed to produce an addendum to review the selection process from 2008.

Congratulations to Alan Durno for being elected to the position of Vice President of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club,

The Objects of the Royal Club are to:-

(a) To unite Curlers throughout the world into one Fellowship of the Rink;

(b) To regulate by rules the ancient Scottish Game of Curling; and

(c) To supply and promote related sporting and other services;

(d) To educate the public about the Game of Curling;

Alan has had a long history as a curler for 38 years, initially at Aviemore (Grampian Province) and then Elgin (Moray Province) playing in club, province and national competitions, he has held the offices of Fochabers Curling Club President – two years, Moray Province President – two years and has been RCCC Area 10 Representative on the Royal Club for the past 4 years, as convenor of Competitions for the last two years.

Alan was a member of the Strathcona Cup winning team which toured Canada in 2003 and he was also very lucky to play outdoors in the last Grand Match at Lake of Mentieth in 1979. Alan is also on the organising committee and Bonspiel convenor of the Highland Week of International Curling which has been held annually for the last 45 years originally in Aviemore Ice Rink but since its demise is now held at the Inverness Ice Centre.

Off the ice, Alan run a successful beef and cereal farming business in Moray and is currently deputy chairman of the Moray Valuation Appeals Committee.
