Following on from the success of Eilidh Yeats (Elgin) last season, Amy McDonald (forres) has had a tremendous curling year and has recently qualified for the Scottish Junior Curling Championship Finals which takes place later this year.

Amy is playing under the Elgin Ice Rink banner and is skipping the rink. Amy was asked what this experience meant to her and explained that this season was the first time they had played as a team in the Scottish Junior Qualifiers. Amy has girls in her team from all over Scotland and her third is Carol Baird, second Rebecca Baird and lead Heather McDonald.

This is their first attempt competing in the under 21s and the first attempt at qualifying for the finals. Nine teams will play off for the title which involves additional practice sessions and longer games. Amy hopes that the finals will give her the added experience to qualify for the Royal Curling Academy next season and more high level games.

Amy is extremely grateful to the Ice Rink and coaches who support not only her but the other 44 members. Amy is coached by the Moray Province Development Group in Moray Leisure Centre which has been subject to concerns of closure recently. Moray Junior Curling Club is one of the largest Clubs in Scotland and meets on a Monday and Wednesday night. Anyone interested in curling should contact the Ice Rink who will pass on the details of future events and membership.

Quote from Presidents Report Province AGM May 2008

I would want to take this opportunity to congratulate those who have established this Group in Elgin. It is great to see so many new curlers coming onto the ice well done to all those involved for giving their time and effort into this development.
