This morning Province Secretary Mike Pickthall and I participated in a zoom meeting with the management of Moray Leisure Centre.
Some of you may already be aware that Ice Sports and in particular, curling is not anticipated to start before January 2021 in the Leisure Centre.
Whilst other ice rinks in Scotland will most likely be able to open for curling well before that date, the situation at M L C due to the COVID-19 pandemic means that the ice pad will be required to allow M L C to generate income through Fit For Life gym and exercise programs.
As the gyms are by far the most important source of income, it is essential that they restart as soon as possible. M L C intend to develop an online exercise system and until that is up and running, the ice pad will require to be used as an exercise and therefore income generating operation.
We have been assured that M L C are fully committed to providing ice by mid to late December and we were encouraged to learn that application has been made for funding of new curling stones , hopefully for season 21/22.
As a Province Executive, we are confident that we will be curling again in January 2021.
