History made at Forres Curling Club Points Competition.

Amy-Macdonald-25_02_14-300History was made in Feb 2014 when the overall points trophy was won by a lady. More so, the lady was only 16 and still a junior.! Amy MacDonald who curls for Forres Curling Club competed against 18 other curlers for a trophy which is one of the oldest in the North of Scotland. Being first to throw stones in the competition Amy led from the front which is a difficult task to achieve and this win makes it three times in succession that she has won the Ladies section. This win however was the overall winner which included all the male curlers. The Club, established in 1873 is one of the oldest Clubs in the North and no lady has ever won the trophy since it was presented in 1895. Amy also curls with Moray Junior Club and is coached by the Moray Province Development Group who’s aims are to enhance the sport of curling and to encourage all ages to try the sport. Amy has had a good curling year playing in a number of Slams as part of the Royal Curling club Talent Programme and skipping a team in the Scottish Junior curling Championships a few weeks ago. She also skips a team in Moray Province Division 4 and the Moray Superleaque. The current television coverage of the Olympic Games has highlighted the sport to many and anyone interested in trying it out can contact the Moray Leisure Centre to find out more.
