MORAY PROVINCE MLC REVIEW GROUP SUB COMMITTEE

The Province Executive Committee has concluded that the time is now right to re-establish the MLC Review Group Sub Committee because of the current situation regarding the uncertain future of the ice rink at the Moray Leisure Centre.

ICE4ALL, which represent all the ice rink user groups, has been working behind the scenes for some years to establish a dialogue with the MLC Board of Management and the Moray Council. All the discussions to date have had to take place off the record. However, as the latest public consultation about sports and leisure facilities in Moray are now under way, discussions between ICE4ALL, MLC and the Moray Council should now be able to take place openly. The Province Executive believes that it is imperative that the curling lobby should play a prominent role in any discussions on the future of the ice rink as well as possible alternative solutions should it close. The Executive, therefore, invite all clubs to canvass their membership to nominate a representative to join the Review Group.

The aims of the Review Group would be twofold;

(a)   To formulate a suitable response, reflecting the interests of curling, to The Moray Council’s “Review of Sport, Leisure and Recreation Provision in Moray”.

(b)  To explore in partnership with ICE4ALL possible ways of retaining an ice rink in Moray and investigate how this might be achieved.

I cannot emphasise enough how important it is that we make the effort to do everything possible to ensure that the game of curling continues to be played in Moray into the future, so please support this call to arms.
