Tight matches were ten a penny in the latest round of games in the Moray Province Curling competitions this week,and none was tighter than the:-
Ladies Knockout semi final.
Tied at 6 each at the end of regulation time, Louise Marshall displayed steely nerve to outdraw Fiona Steel’s Nairn Ladies to book her place in the final.
In Division 1 league business,Alan Campbell consolidated his position at the top of the league with a 6-4 win over Neil Durno’s Fochabers farmers, while Elgin Tennis club’s strong form continued with a tight win over Kenny Oswald. A two at the last end giving The ball boys a good win.
In the upper Speyside derby, Aberlour’s Andy Cameron had a single shot victory over Ryan Mckenzie’s Ballindalloch rink.
In Division 2 Bill Jaffrey and Ronald Christie had a 5-5 peel.Christie coming back from a 5-1 deficit, with 4 single shots at each of the last 4 ends. Abby Duncan had mixed fortunes in his 2 games, a close 8-7 loss to Donald Ross following the previous nights morale boosting 11-3 win over league leading Gavin Nicol.
In the third division, Howard Anstruther maintained his top position with two good wins over Bob Stewart and then Ross Mculloch. Ross again suffered a loss the next night ,this time to the wily old Charlie Watt.
Mike McDonald kept up his league challenge with a good 8-5 win over Elgin’s Alastair Grant.
In Division 5, Mike Mckenzie maintained his 100% record, comfortably beating the Moray Firth Ladies rink skipped by Sandra McIver.
