Moray Province Curling Development Group Christmas Bonspiel 2011
On Saturday 10th December ten local teams took to the ice at the Moray Leisure Centre for the 4th annual Festive bonspiel jointly supported by the Moray
Leisure Centre and the Moray Province Curling Development Group.
It was encouraging to see 6 of the teams being made up of Moray Junior Curling Club members, many competing in a competition for the first time and many under the age of 14!
It was noted that this was the largest gathering of Moray Junior Curling club members to take to the ice competitively in their short history to date.
Participating teams enjoyed playing on keen ice specially prepared overnight by the ice rink staff.
All teams played two games at a very good standard with a fine spread of sandwiches and soup supplied by the leisure centre thoroughly enjoyed during the break from competition.
The results were secondary to all but there were winners to congratulate these being
in first place the Moray Wheelchair Curling Club continuing their recent run of fine form and Buckie Curling club coming in as the runners up.
During the prize giving a few extra thank you’s were intimated.
The Moray Leisure centre and their staff, Moray Province Curling Development group for their sponsorship. Morag Cumming, Sandra MacIver, Bill Nicol and Les Morgan ably supported by parents of the junior club members and helpers who ensured the event went off without a hitch.
Here’s to the 2012 event.
Lanarkshire Under 17-Slam 2011
We also had a rink taking part in the Lanarkshire under 17 slam and you can see a report on Bob Cowan’s Skip Cottage site http://skipcottagecurling.blogspot.com/.
They were against really strong opposition from all ice rinks in Scotland and they acquitted themselves very well in the three games they played.
